NOTES From the Music Department

Many students in Grades 2-3-4 have bought their own recorders. You can purchase one at any time from Ms. Phi in the Music room. They are $8. If you do not want to buy one, I will be lending one from the classroom. There will be a borrowing contract that should be signed and returned to me.

The students are being taught to play their recorders beautifully. It should be very nice to listen to, with a gentle sound. I have asked them to practice at home if they can. Some resources will be sent home with them, and there are many good educational play-along videos on YouTube. Please have them keep the recorders in their backpacks so that they are at school when they have music class. 

Not only are recorders an easy beginning instrument, but they are also excellent tools for early music literacy. Music literacy is like regular literacy, only it’s a Superpower! It requires all our senses to work together at the same time. Reading music brings everything together – especially literacy and math! In this way, playing recorder helps your child in all other aspects of learning.
